I believe it to be true!

I've been asked why I think the bible is true.

This is to answer that old question..."How can I believe the bible to be true?"

All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16-17

Translated from Greek: Qeovpneustoß meaning divinely breathed or breathed out by God.

First I will give actual facts about the bible first then explain more.

Facts about the bible:
#1 The bible is the best selling book in the history of the world.
#2 The bible is the most shoplifted book in the history of the world. (I kinda LOL'd when I heard this one)
#3 The bible isn't just one big book but a collection of 66 books all in one.
#4 The bible was written by over 40 different authors with total different backgrounds.
#5 The bible was written from 13 different countries on 3 different continents: asia, africa, and europe.
#6 The bible was written in three different languages: hewbrew, greek, and aramaic.
#7 The bible was written over a span of 1,500 years.
#8 The bible has amazing consistency and accuracy when it comes to the message about the character, the nature of God and His redemptive plan for humankind.
#9 The bible is the word of God.

Now in 1952, a historian named Steve Sanders put the bible to 3 different tests. He called them reliability tests. They are:

The internal test (putting the believers to the test): Do writers of the bible claim that their writings are true?

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were, eyewitnesses of his majesty. II Peter 1:16

The external test (putting the non-believers/skeptics to the test): What does the outside evidence say about the bible?

Nelson Glueck, world renowned archeologist, the best one to have ever walked this PLANET, says: "It may be stated categorically that no archeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference"

NOT EVEN ONE! Science just proves the bible to be true!

And finally, the last test:

The bibliographic test: It wants to find out how well were the original documents translated to today.

"How accurate are biblical copies?"

The Iliad by Homer - 643 original manuscripts
Plato's Republic - 7 original manuscripts
Aristotle - 5 original manuscripts
Caesar - 10 original manuscripts

The New Testament - over 24,000 original manuscripts!!

Now, remember, in 1,500 years...manuscripts have been collected of 13 different countries on 3 different continents by over 40 different authors and there were virtually NO difference in text. The only differences were minor punctuation!! That was NO accident. Now the bible was passed over 1,500 years mostly through word of mouth and in 1947 the dead sea scrolls were found in a cave that were translated to be the exact same thing that was passed down through generations verbally.

The bible has proven to be relevent to Christian faith, reliable, and HISTORICALLY TRUE AND ACCURATE!! How can you NOT believe??

The odds of one person's life in Jesus' time fulfilling only 8 of the prophecies what were filled by Jesus alone is 1 out of 10 to the 17th power and he's filled ALOT more than just 8. Not every profecy has been filled though, including His promise to return.

1 comment:

  1. 1. The Gospels were not written by people who knew or actually followed Jesus.

    2. Nowhere in other manuscripts or texts in history other than the Bible prove Jesus or his followers existed. The only person that is factually true in the story of Jesus is Pontus Pilot.

    3. The Virgin Birth is not mentioned in the Bible, people often confuse this with Immaculate Conception but it's not the same thing.

    4. The Bible states that Jesus was born during Caesar Augustus' rein and King Herod's rein but King Herod in fact died in 4 BC and Augustus didn't ever decree a worldwide census like the Bible states hence the reason Mary and Joseph were on the move during Mary's pregnancy.

Just a few of the problems with the Bible and religion.
